Homemade Pizza Recipes

Who can resist a slice of  fresh pizza? These recipes are easy to prepare and a great way to feed a crowd.

Homemade Pizza Dough

Prep Time: 20 minutes + 45 minutes for rising

Cook Time: 10 minutes
Makes 2 pizzas

What you’ll need:
2 teaspoons (10 mL) powdered yeast
1 teaspoon (5 mL) superfine sugar
1 teaspoon (5mL) salt
2 cups (300 g) all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons (30 mL) olive oil

What to do:
1. Combine the yeast, sugar, and salt in a small bowl with 3⁄4 cup (180 mL) lukewarm water. Let stand for 10 minutes, or until frothy.
2. Place the flour in a large bowl and make a well in the center. Pour in the yeast mixture, then mix together until combined. Gather the dough into a ball and knead on a lightly floured surface for 5 minutes.
3. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean dishtowel and leave in a warm place for 45 minutes, or until doubled in size. Punch down the dough, then divide in half. Roll each portion out to an 8 1/2 inch (22 cm) round and place on two lightly oiled pizza trays.
4. Add your favorite toppings and bake at 400ºF (200ºC) for 10 minutes, or until the dough is crisp and golden and the topping is bubbling.

Basic Margherita

What you’ll need:
1⁄2 cup (125 g) tomato pizza sauce
5 ounces (150 g) sliced bocconcini (fresh baby mozzarella balls)
4 tablespoons (60 g) fresh basil leaves

What to do:
1. Spread the rounds with the pizza sauce.
2. Top with the cheese and bake.
3. Scatter with basil leaves before serving.

Seafood

What you’ll need:
1⁄2 cup (125 g) tomato pizza sauce
7 ounces (200 g) seafood marinara mix (see note)
2⁄3 cup (90 g) grated mozzarella
2 tablespoons (30 g) chopped fresh parsley

What to do:
1. Spread the rounds with the pizza sauce.
2. Arrange the marinara mix over the bases.
3. Sprinkle with the cheese and bake.
4. Serve sprinkled with the parsley.

NOTE: Toss any mix of raw prepared seafood, such as small shrimp, scallops, mussels, or fish fillet pieces with prepared marinara sauce.

Ham & Pineapple

What you’ll need:
8 ounces (225 g) canned or fresh pineapple pieces
7 ounces (200 g) sliced ham
1⁄2 cup (125 g) tomato pizza sauce
1 cup (100 g) grated cheddar

What to do:
1. Drain the pineapple and chop the ham.
2. Spread the rounds with the pizza sauce.
3. Arrange the ham and pineapple on top.
4. Sprinkle with the cheese and bake.

Spicy Salami

What you’ll need:
4 ounces (125 g) sliced spicy salami, roughly chopped
1 small red bell pepper, sliced thinly
1⁄2 cup (125 g) tomato pizza sauce
1 cup (125 g) grated mozzarella

What to do:
1. Spread the rounds with the pizza sauce.
2. Arrange the salami and pepper slices over the bases.
3. Sprinkle with the cheese and bake.

Antipasto

What you’ll need:
4 ounces (125 g) marinated quartered artichoke hearts
3 1⁄2 ounces (100 g) marinated sundried tomatoes
1⁄3 cup (80 g) prepared pesto
5 ounces (150 g) sliced bocconcini (fresh baby mozzarella balls)

What to do:
1. Drain excess marinade from the artichokes and tomatoes.
2. Spread the rounds with the pesto.
3. Arrange the artichokes, tomatoes, and cheese on top, then bake.
